A rally will be held in downtown Moncton this afternoon, to support the Wet’suwet’en people in their protest against the CGL pipeline.
Organizer Mackenzie Dunnett is a Moncton High student, “I am personally very spiritual and I think that right now, especially with our climate crisis, we need to look to cultures that value our land.”
Protests were held across the country last week, including one at the Confederation Bridge in Prince Edward Island.
Trains have also come to a standstill, including CN and VIA Rail as a results of blockades.
Dunnet says, “I definitely have a lot of aboriginal and indigenous friends, who have been kind enough to show me about the culture and show me the values of the land and what we should be looking more towards, instead of a pipeline.”
The rally will begin at 2pm, in front of Moncton City Hall.
She says,”I am planning on having many indigenous guests come and they will be sharing a few words as well as hopefully some prayer and song. I will be delivering a speech as well, to demonstrate how we are allies for the indigenous people.”
Dunnett says they will then march to MP Ginette Petitpas-Taylor’s office.
