Habitat for Humanity is planning a new build in Greater Moncton.
Executive Director Chantal Landry says the land on Jacques Street was donated by the City of Dieppe in 2015.
“We just haven’t built on it yet, and we are moving forward. It just seemed like a good place to start in Greater Monton this year,” Landry says.
They are currently seeking applicants who want to become homeowners through a partnership with Habitat.
“It is a bungalow, basic home that would have a minimum of three bedrooms. The nice thing about this house is it has the flexibility, that we could have a larger family and have bedrooms and a living space in the basement,” Landry explains.
This will be their 23rd house built and their 33rd family served in Southeastern New Brunswick.
Criteria includes families must have a household income that fits into a low income bracket and they have a need for safe and affordable housing.
“They also must be willing to spend 500 hours helping to build their house along with a group of volunteers. The other would be, that they have the capacity to pay the mortgage payment, because this is a house they would own,” Landry says.
Applications are available online. For more information, or to apply go to Habitat’s website to fill out an expression of interest form in order to begin the application process.
