Thousands have signed an online petition calling on the government to reverse cuts at the Sussex Health Centre.
On Tuesday, health officials announced Sussex will be among six communities to see their emergency rooms close between midnight and 8 a.m.
The petition was started Monday as rumours began to swirl ahead of the announcement. As of late Wednesday morning, it had more than 9,000 signatures.
Many people who signed the petition said having to drive to the nearest ER in Saint John or Moncton could mean the difference between life and death.
Similar petitions have also popped up in some of the other affected communities.
