First Reading Of Flyer Distribution By-Law

The first reading of a proposed by-law on flyer distribution was made during Monday’s Moncton City Council meeting.

Mayor Dawn Arnold says the by-law will make it mandatory for commercial flyers to be placed in a mailbox or front step.

This is meant to resemble to the Halifax model, which gives residents the option to opt out of receiving the flyers.

Residents can place “NO FLYERS” sign on their mailbox and if a flyer is delivered, that too will be an offence.

Fines for violating this by-law can range between $140 and $2,100.

A second and third reading of the by-law are expected over the next couple of months.
