With more snow in the forecast this week, many parents are wondering if students will have another snow day.
Anglophone East School District has had two snow days so far.
Superintendent Gregg Ingersoll says it’s not always an easy decision to make,”If it is a big snowstorm and the whole city is shut down, that’s one thing. But those days when it’s mixed precipitation and the roads aren’t very good , people sometimes wonder why did we decided what we did, but we always make our decision based on student safety.”
Ingersoll says they have averaged around six snow days over the last ten to twelve years. “Some years we’ve had less, three or four, while others we’ve had more, thirteen or fourteen, but the average is usually around six days.”
If a storm isn’t due to arrive until midday, they are proactive and cancel in the morning, “Closing schools midday, when parents are working, we have to make sure we contact someone at home before we send students home, especially the younger ones. It is a more complicated process. It is not easy for everyone, and it is much easier if we know ahead of time,” Ingersoll says.
