More than 1,300 players from over 100 teams in Southeast New Brunswick are taking part in the Timbits Hockey Jamboree this weekend at the Avenir Centre.
To mark this year’s 30th anniversary, 12 players and two coaches from the first Timbits Hockey team in 1982 are being celebrated.
The honourees include Robin Thompson, the first female player, along with Tim Hortons restaurant owners Corey O’Neill, an original player, and Gary O’Neill, the Timbits Hockey founder.
Hosted by local Tim Hortons restaurant owners, the Jamboree is free for all Timbits teams in the region.
During the event, players ranging in age from four to eight years old will take part in two mini hockey games.
At the end of the Jamboree, each player will receive a medal signifying their hard work throughout the season, a Sidney Crosby gift and a commemorative 30th anniversary keepsake.
Jamboree participants will also attend Moncton Wildcats games on Saturday (7pm) and Sunday (4pm) and will be part of the Parade of Champions between the second and third periods.
