Construction of a modular bridge on Route 133 between Shediac and Cap-Pele is expected to begin later this month, weather permitting.
The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DTI) says the replacement for Kouchibouguac River Bridge #1 is expected to open before spring.
DTI has said a modular bridge is the fastest and safest way to restore the link with a long-term plan being developed.
The existing bridge has been closed since September 20 following damage from Hurricane Dorian.
DTI said structural issues including the loss of concrete from the underside of the bridge deck made it unsafe.
Route 15 is being used as a detour but it adds another 15 kilometres for commuters.
The province has secured funding for the modular bridge through a disaster financial assistance arrangement with the federal government.
