N.B. Candidate Awareness Campaign Launched

The Candidate Awareness campaign for New Brunswick’s upcoming local elections has been launched.

New Brunswick’s Chief Electoral Officer will be making stops across the province in an effort to recruit potential candidates.

Kim Poffenroth says it includes positions on the municipal council, the district of education council and on the board of regional health authorities.

Poffenroth says that for the health of democracy, it’s important for electors to have a full slate of candidates to choose from on May 11th.

She says eligible applicants must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years of age and a resident of the area in which they are running for at least 6 months.

Poffenroth says a number of information sessions will be held across the province to discuss the roles and responsibilities as well as the qualifications of each position.

She also says a fact sheet with information on the various positions can also be accessed through the Elections NB website.

If you plan on running, Poffenroth says nomination papers must be filed by no later than 2 p.m. on April 9th.
