Car Rolls Onto Ice On Jones Lake

An unusual sight on Jones Lake yesterday afternoon.

A car slid down the embankment and onto the ice.

Moncton Fire Platoon Chief Paul Bruens says it happened at around 3 o’clock on New Years Day on the Westmount Boulevard side of the Lake.

A woman started the car in her driveway and went into the house.

The car then rolled onto the Lake.

Bruens says they’re unsure at this point exactly why, but he suspects there may have been mechanical issues.

Firefighters helped to tether the vehicle to the tow truck, and it was pulled safely from the Lake.

Bruens says there was no one in the car, and no one was hurt.

Several RCMP cruisers were also on scene.

Bruens says everyone should stay off the ice currently because you can never be sure how thick it is.
