Heavy Rain, Possible Flooding For Southern NB

It may be almost mid-December, but you can put away your parkas and trade them for raincoats over the next couple of days.

A rainfall warning has been issued for central and southern New Brunswick with mild temperatures and up to 65 mm expected in some areas.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Spencer Clements says a low pressure system is moving quickly into the region.

“Rain showers will become steadier through this afternoon. Then we’re looking at a period of heavy rain tonight and into Tuesday morning.”

Since the ground may be frozen and with a snowpack in some areas, Clements says that could lead to significant run-off and melting causing localized flooding.

Strong winds are also expected with gusts up to 80 km/h by tonight.

He adds it will turn much colder by Wednesday with some snow possible.
