The tri-communities’ emergency mutual aid agreement has been updated for the first time since 1993.
The agreement is seldom used but Moncton Fire Chief Conrad Landry says it is important.
“Especially if we have a fire outside of the city limits, where there’s no fire hydrants, we require other fire departments to help us with the water shuttle,” he says.
Landry says two major changes were made, the first is that the agreement will no longer only be fore fire-related emergencies.
This means Moncton, Riverview and Dieppe would be able to share other equipment.
Landry says the new agreement also better reflects the new provincial Local Governance Act.
