A letter has been sent home to parents at Bernice MacNaughton High about a case of pertussis or whooping cough at the school.
Public Health has been contacted and is looking into the matter.
The letter states that whooping cough is highly contagious with a severe cough that can last for months and is potentially life-threatening for infants.
A fact sheet about pertussis was also attached for parents noting how it can be transmitted through nose, mouth and throat droplets of someone infected.
If a child develops symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, fever and a cough which continues to worsen, parents are urged to contact a doctor.
Just two weeks ago, Public Health announced it was investigating a diagnosis of tuberculosis at Bernice MacNaughton but noted the case was a low risk for the school population.
