Vandalism Growing Concern In Anglophone East School District

The Anglophone East District of Education Council is taking a second look at its repair budget.

This comes after a recent student leadership conference, where members had a chance to hear from students about various issues.

Michelle Folkins says it was a big eye opener on things like vaping.

Folkins says she was also surprised to learn how big of an problem vandalism in schools, by students is.

Vandalism and destruction of school property has forced the DEC to consider a higher repair budget.

DEC Chair Harry Doyle says this isn’t the first time he’s heard of students vandalizing and damaging school property.

“You just can’t let it stay there because if you do it just multiplies and gets worse,” says Doyle.

The DEC is considering an increase of about $800,000 for a total of $2 million.

“Let’s see how it goes, we may even have to do more than that in terms of going forward,” Doyle adds.
