Ambulance New Brunswick has come up with a new initiative in an effort to avoid repeat visits to accidents scenes.
During a storm, cars may be left abandoned, because a person has been transported to hospital by Ambulance NB.
But passing motorists may not know that and place 911 calls numerous times for the same vehicle.
Ambulance New Brunswick Spokesperson Karen Leonard says they’re rolling out a new vehicle flagging program, and once they’ve been at the scene, they are wrapping the vehicles with tape.
“Any other vehicles that are driving by will know that the vehicle has already been checked by paramedics,” Leonard says.
So, if you see a vehicle wrapped in the yellow tape, there is no need to call 911.
“So, the tape itself is yellow in colour, it is like a bright flourescent yellow. There is an Ambulance NB logo stamped right on the tape. Then there is a ANB high visibility grey marker, so that you can see it in the nighttime as well.”
Ambulance NB says this helps to keep the phone lines free, and paramedics where we need them.
“To reduce the redeployment of 911 calls. Our main goal is patient care, and this allows our vehicles to be in service at the right time,” Leonard says.
This new initiative began on November 1st..
