It will be a big night at the Avenir Centre for hockey fans tomorrow night.
It is the first nationally televised hockey game at the centre as a part of the Canada/Russia series . Sportsnet will be carrying the game live.
Moncton City Councillor Greg Turner says this is great exposure for the centre and for the City, “Certainly, Hockey Canada and the CHL are really aware of the Avenir Centre and the potential that is there for hosting major events. Hockey Canada visited Moncton back around a year ago when we were bidding for the Memorial Cup, so we’re on their radar.”
Three Moncton Wildcats will be playing for the Canadian QMJHL team, while a fourth will be a member of Team Russia.
“Out of the 40 players on the ice, 10 per cent of them will be Wildcats,” Turner says.
Moncton is one of two stops in New Brunswick for the Canada/Russia series.
The first is tonight in Saint John.
The 2019 CIBC Canada Russia Series which takes place November 4-14.
A team of 24 Russian players including three goaltenders, eight defencemen, and 13 forwards will travel across Canada as part of the 17th annual series with six games against CHL competition in preparation for the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship.
Tickets are still available for tomorrow night’s game in Moncton.
