The unions representing education sector workers, custodial staff, maintenance staff and school bus drivers are expressing concern over a green paper released by the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
Members of CUPE Locals 2745 and 1253 say they believe the school system can be improved, but they’re worried about many aspects of the document.
President Iris Lloyd says nowhere in the vision is there a mention of educational staff other than teachers and principals.
President Theresa McAllister says with the mention of phasing out age-based level education, there’s no mention of increased funding or resources to support the proposed flexible learning environments.
The green paper is a 25-page document put out by the province with ideas and action items on how to reform kindergarten to grade 12 education in New Brunswick.
