Executive Director Carol Cottrill says all of the money raised goes to help adults improve their literacy skills, “That can be reading, writing, numeracy, technology. We really try to focus on what the individual needs. We offer tutoring free, confidential and in your own community. We can students as young as 16 years of age, up to 106. It’s never too late to learn.”
More than 2500 people attended the sale in 2018 and over $25, 000 was raised for literacy programs.
Around 30, 000 books will be available for sale at this year’s Bookstravaganza.
“About 50 per cent of New Brunswickers struggle with some sort of literacy issue. I actually hate that word illiteracy because it has such a negative connotation. We are really trying to remove the stigma of needing to improve your literacy skill. Everyone needs to improve some sort of skill, and that’s all it is, just another skill,” Cottrill says.
