Who Will Win The Purolator Tackle Hunger Challenge This Year?

Students at Harrison Trimble High and Bernice MacNaughton will go head to head tomorrow night on the football field.

But there’s also a challenge ongoing in school hallways as well.

Students have been collecting non-perishable food items with one school being crowned a winner after tomorrow night’s game.

President of Food Depot Alimentaire Dale Hicks says this is the third annual Purolator Tackle Hunger Challenge, “Last year, the total was around 2400 pounds of food. All of that food went to the Peter McKee Community Food Centre. It’s a little boost for us at this time of year when we get the lull between summer and Christmas. We try to take all of the donations that we receive, especially in Moncton and give them to the centre, who are serving between 1300 and 1400 families a month.”

Students have been collecting all week, but Hicks says they also receive donations at the game as well, “Fans of former students will come to the football game. We collect a few items and some even drop cash donations into a pot, and we add it to the totals for the Purolator Tackle Hunger Challenge. At the end of the game, we present the Purolator Cup to the winning team.”

fans and former students also come out to the game and bring along a food item or a cash donation.

The game will be played tomorrow night at McKenna Field at 7pm.
