Town Dog Seizure Sparks Outrage On Social Media

The Town of Riverview has released a statement today after a social media campaign exploded over the weekend urging the release of a dog taken by an animal control officer.

The Town says it received numerous online threats against its employees and contractors and calls for violence which have been referred to Codiac RCMP.

On Friday, Chester the dog was taken from his owners after the town said it had attacked a child and another dog in September.

Town officials say the child and the dog were both injured and needed treatment.

The Town noted steps were taken since the dog was considered aggressive under its bylaw and the breed was not a factor.

On Facebook, the dog’s owners deny the animal bit anyone but do say Chester got into a minor altercation with another dog.

The dog was returned to its owners on Monday after town officials say all provisions were met under the bylaw.
