Crime rates are up in the Greater Moncton Area, according to Deputy Mayor Pierre Boudreau.
He says particularly bicycle thefts and break-and-enters has been on the rise is demanding that the RCMP provide statistics over the last 3 to 5 years.
“I think its far overdue that we have a report from the CRPA, the public is paying for that,” Boudreau says.
“I believe citizens should be aware of what’s going on in their city. If its good, its good and if its back we need to correct it,” he adds.
Boudreau also requested Tom Critchlow, Codiac RCMP’s superintendent report back to them on whether they are looking at alternative methods of policing.
He says if there is an issue within the tri-community, maybe there is a better solution that doesn’t only involve RCMP officers.
The RCMP has been looking at implementing an app called ‘Citizens On Patrol’ that lets residents report issues, but have yet to determine when it will launch who will be monitoring it.
