Moncton Family Happy To Have Charlie Home After PEI Adventure

What started out as a camping trip for a Moncton family, turned into a search for the family pup in PEI.

Melody Land and her family set up their trailer at a campground in Borden.

After deciding to visit Anne of Green Gables, they decided to check Charlie into a boarding kennel in Crapaud.

When they returned several hours later, they discovered he was gone.

For 31 hours Islanders from the area searched, “I’ve never witnessed anything like it. From the moment we posted on Facebook that this was happening, there were people looking. Five to ten cars were out searching. People that I didn’t know, almost around the clock from the time he got out.”

After numerous social media sightings, Charlie was finally located.

“He went from Crapaud to Victoria, circled around and was in Kelly’s Cross and was on his way, we think, maybe to the trailer? He was trying to make his way back, because we were in Borden at the Yogi Bear Jellystone Park campground.”

Land says they think he travelled around 10 kilometres.

“I don’t know how he covered the space he did, and what types of adventures he went on,” Land says.

Eight-year-old Charlie was dehydrated and hungry, and suffered some sores from his harness, but he is doing okay.

The Land family is back in Moncton, and relieved that they found their dog.

“The fact that we got him when we did, it truly is a miracle. It’s only because of the people in Crapaud and the surrounding communities,” Land says.
