As summer winds down, the city of Moncton is gearing up for winter.
General streets foreman, Jeff Scott gave councillors a first look at the snow removal plan.
He notes that there are at least 30 kilometres of sidewalk missing form the plan, including a new section on Elmwood.
“If it’s constructed then yes, that would be something that I would endorse because it creates conductivity. The only reason it wasn’t there before is because there wasn’t physical sidewalk,” Scott says.
Councillor Shawn Crossman said he hopes to see the sidewalks included in time for the school year.
Councillor Greg Turner says there is a short trail between Roselin crescent and Morton that he’d like to have included.
“There are actually three buildings there on Roselin and a lot of [occupants] are people that tend to go to the Université de Moncton so they want to cut through that pathway, which the city asked the developer to put in or construct and now we’d like to have that maintained in the winter if that’s possible,” Turner says.
General foreman Jeff Scott says they might be limited due to the size of equipment they have.
“What is council open to doing when there’s a bucket still of 30km of sidewalk on local primary streets that is not able to come into the program and then directing resources towards a trail. What potential situation does that put council in?” Scott inquired.
Proposed changes will be reviewed at a later date.
