More Discussion Surrounding Rainbow Crosswalks At Moncton City Council

Rainbow crosswalks will be up for discussion again tonight at Moncton City Council.

City Councillor Shawn Crossman made a notice of motion last month for the issue to voted on.

He says he was shocked to hear that the City would not move ahead with them this summer, “I wanted City Councillors to have a discussion on rainbow crosswalks and to show support for the LGBTQ community and move forward with those crosswalks within the downtown core.”

Crossman is confident this will be approved, “I expect to get full support tonight from City Council. It will be quickly implemented. The Pride parade is the end of August and I expect these crosswalks within the next few weeks at the most.

Crossman says Moncton is an inclusive and diverse community and should be showing support their support.

This is the second year the City of Moncton has not painted the crosswalks, after citing safety concerns and liability risks.

Both Riverview and Dieppe have painted rainbow crosswalks in their communities.

Moncton City Council gets underway at 4pm today in Council Chambers at City Hall.
