Lots of excitement came with the announcement of a five million dollar campaign for a residential hospice facility in Southeast New Brunswick.

Executive Director of Hospice SENB Tradina Meadows Forgeron says this has been 15 years in the making, “Since 2004, we have been dreaming of building this type of residence. We have our plans together, we are ready to go, the announcement from the province, it is all just fitting together nicely.

The provincial government has committed one million dollars towards the construction of the hospice facility, but it is conditional on the federal government matching the funds.

Meadows-Forgeron says, “Clients will be able to go into a residence and have their own room. They won’t be in a room in the hospital with four other people. The families will have their own rooms. Children will be able to go play out back. It will be filled. We are estimating between 130 to 150 people will go through our residence in one year.”

The 11, 700 square foot facility will include 10 private patient rooms and four family rooms, amongst many other features.

Hospice SENB hopes to have the doors open by the fall of 2020.
