A run will be held this weekend to honour the three RCMP officers who were shot and killed in Moncton 5 years ago.
Its the 6th annual Three Fathers Memorial Run and will be held on Sunday.
People from the community came together to organize the first run only 11 days after the shooting.
Nadine Larche is on the run’s organizing committee and is also the widow of officer Doug Larche.
She says they chose to give back to the community by using the funds raised to create scholarships.
“We give out 18 thousand dollars every year to local students at the six local high schools, so we give out three bursaries at every high school in the Greater Moncton Area,” says Larche.
This year, in addition to the three fallen officers, the run will also honour all first responders.
“While we are honouring Doug, Dave and Fabrice, we also want to honour other first responders in our event. So they could be running for Doug, Dave and Fabrice but they could also be running for a firefighter friend or their dad or someone else who works in other emergency services. We just want to honour all other heroes in our community as well,” says Larche.
The event kicks off at 8:30. You can find further information on the Three Fathers Memorial Run Facebook page.
