Warnings have been issued by fire officials in the United States about water bottles left in hot cars caused fires.
Moncton Fire Division Chief Charles Leblanc says it may sound far fetched, but it can happen, “The old magnifying glassed effect with the sun coming through the plastic bottle and basically just pinpointing an area in the vehicle, and it could slowly start a fire. In the right circumstances, it can definitely become an issue.”
To date, Leblanc says he hasn’t heard of this happening in New Brunswick, but it is something to think about.
He adds, “Anything that will produce heat, especially in the summer months, where the interior of the vehicle can get so hot, certain items can really overheat and start a fire inside your vehicle.”
