Moncton Mayor Excited With Continued Growth In Downtown

The construction of Tannery Place South is just another piece of the development puzzle being added to our downtown, that according to Mayor Dawn Arnold.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held yesterday for the luxury apartment complex that is going up at Vaughn Harvey Boulevard and Ivan Rand Drive.

Arnold says it is all about spurring growth in our downtown, “We’re already at $75 million dollars in new growth in our downtown core. Our commitment is $83 million by 2023. Projects like this just keep building on the success of our downtown core.”

The Mayor says the downtown is the heart of our city, “It needs to be beating efficiently and effectively. In order to do that, it needs to be filled with people 24/7, so you need residential.”

Tannery Place South is just the first phase of the project. It will include 46 two and three bedroom luxury apartments, and over 13 thousand square feet of retails and commercial space.

Arnold says, “We’ve hit the sweet spot as to what is needed in our community. It’s not just Monctonians. I have talked to people from Grand Barachois, Shediac, and everywhere, looking to downsize, but they still want three bedrooms. It seems to have the perfect mix of what is needed.”
