Parent Concerned Over Lack Of Information In Moncton Headstart Incident

At least one parent is raising concerns after three teachers and an aide were fired from Moncton Headstart.

Lindsay O’Blenis says her three-year-old son, Connor, is not in the class where an incident reportedly occurred, but she feels all of the parents should have been informed.

“I don’t need to know what children were involved. I don’t even need to know necessarily the specific staff members involved, but I want to trust that the school will completely be transparent with us parents with our children there,” O’Blenis says.

O’Blenis said her son, who is autistic, does not verbalize well and would not be able to tell her if something happened, “He can’t come home and tell me how his day was, what happened if anything did happen, good or bad. I have to have complete trust that if something does happen that I am going to be informed.”

She adds she is still confident with the service provided at the school but wishes all of the parents had been told something.

“All we can do as parents is speculate about what happened which makes it even worse. We don’t know what happened. They’re not telling us anything at all. It is just causing this situation to be so much bigger than it probably is,” O’Blenis says.

A news conference was called Thursday by Moncton Headstart to advise the public of the firings.

Spokesperson Chad Peters says an internal investigation has been launched surrounding the incident which allegedly took place on May 22.

Peters says the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development has been notified and Headstart is fully cooperating with the province.
