NB Jobless Rate Climbs Slightly

The jobless rate jumped slightly in New Brunswick in April to eight percent from 7.9 percent in March.

Statistics Canada says the province lost 6,400 full-time jobs last month but gained 2,500 part-time jobs.

The unemployment rates in New Brunswick’s two largest cities also climbed.

Moncton and Saint John each had a jobless figure of 5.9 percent – both slight increases compared to March.

Canada’s jobless rate was slightly lower in April at 5.7 percent with more participation in the labour market.

Employment rose by 107,000 with notable gains in part-time work for youth.
