National Day Of Mourning

Every year, New Brunswickers are injured at their workplace, some of them fatally.

Today, the Canadian flag at Parliament Hill will be flying at half-mast, for them.

The National Day of Mourning is a day of remembrance for workers who have died, fallen ill or become injured as a result of workplace hazards.

The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety says it’s also a time for work places to renew their safety commitments and prevent further tragedies.

Canada became the first country to commemorate workers who were killed or injured on the job when Parliament passed a law designating April 28 as the Day of Mourning.

A ceremony will be held at the cenotaph in Bore Park at 11:30 to honour all those affected.
