YWCA To Increase Capacity Thanks To Funding

The federal government has announced funding to help boost capacity levels for various women’s resource centres.

Among the six organizations in New Brunswick receiving money is the YWCA Moncton.

Minister for Women and Gender Equality Maryam Monsef made the announcement at Moncton’s YWCA this morning.

The goal is to help increase the organization’s ability to grow, meet increasing demands for their services and continue to address gender equality issues.

Over $2.1 million will be provided through the Capacity-building fund and up to $1.7 million through the gender-based violence program.

Moncton YWCA will be receiving just under $190,000.

They are seeking to strengthen and sustain their services for more the more than 3,000 women, children and families they support.

Minister Monsef says this funding is important not only for the women seeking the services but those offering them.

This is a huge boost for many of these organizations who operate on little to no budget.

Funding will be issued over a five year span.
