Identifying And Mapping Ticks In NB

Spring weather means ticks are becoming more active again and with that comes the threat of Lyme disease for both humans and our pets.

A website which maps and identifies ticks has been created by a professor from Bishop’s University in Quebec.

Dr. Jade Savage says she wants to hear from New Brunswickers with their submissions including pictures of the ticks they find.

Savage says her team can identify ticks and provide feedback in a timely fashion often within 48 hours.

She notes how there are 12 species of ticks in eastern Canada and only one which can transmit Lyme disease.

The website is based in Quebec but has now expanded to include submissions from New Brunswick and Ontario.
