A mother affected by the recent accusations against a nurse at the Moncton Hospital, is encouraging other mothers who may have been impacted to come forward.
A class action lawsuit was filed yesterday against Horizon Health network and nurse Nicole Ruest.
The labour and delivery nurse is accused of giving oxytocin to patients to induce labour at Moncton Hospital.
Jayde Scott is one of two mothers represented in the lawsuit.
She gave birth to twins in March this year. Within minutes of being given an IV which she thought contained saline, she started experiencing strong contractions…which caused the babies heart rates to drop…and she was taken in for an emergency c-section.
Two firms have filed the suit McKiggan Hebert in Halifax and and Fidelis Law in Moncton.
They are seeking damages for mothers and children who suffered injuries as a result of allegedly being drugged with oxytocin.
Women who believe they were also affected between 2005 and 2019 are being encouraged to come forward.
The injuries suffered by class members are alleged to include, but are not limited to, premature delivery, unnecessary emergency caesarian sections and instrument assisted deliveries, and post-natal injuries to mothers and their children.
