Shale Gas Meetings Planned In Southeast NB

More information sessions on shale gas are planned over the next few days.

Spokesperson for the New Brunswick anti shale gas alliance Jim Emberger says with the impact fracking will have on rural communities, they want to re-educate residents on the process, the risks and the benefits, “Basically an education because, we had the moratorium for four years so a lot of people have forgotten. It has been so long since we talked about the issue, we just want to bring people up to speed.”

Emberger will be speaking about climate change, and there will also be speakers from two other organizations, “We have some Petro-Geologists who are going to be talking about fracking and geology in the area, and talking about the effects on communities. Based on the experiences elsewhere on fracking, it is Deborah Carr from WEPAC, which is Water & Environmental Protection Albert County. SAFE, which is the Sussex Area for a Frack-Free Environment group will also be there.”

The first presentation is tonight at the Legion in Hillsborough.

Another will be held tomorrow night in Elgin and the third in Sussex on Wednesday.

Emberger says rural communities in southeast N.B. will be impacted if the Higgs government lifts the moratorium on fracking, “So, we’re hoping that because there is no market and no investment potential that the government is finally realising that this is just a dream and it is based on things that have happened in the past and doesn’t really apply to what the situation is now in the world.”
