Be Ready For Ice Movement Soon

Several days with above zero temps and substantial rain have the provincial government making New Brunswickers aware of the potential for ice movement in the coming weeks.

Geoffrey Downey of the New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization tells us spring is in our sights.

“I wouldn’t say it’s arrived but once you start getting into consistent temperatures above zero. While 30 millimetres isn’t a massive amount of rain it’s not insignificant either. It’s now the time of year when river ice will start loosening up.” Downey says.

Downey says they are not expecting any massive ice flows but, they want people to be aware of their surroundings if they spend any time near moving bodies of water.

New Brunswick EMO recommends everyone to avoid the banks of waterways as they become dangerous this time of year because the water is cold, currents are swift and may be carrying debris.
