UPDATE: Winter Storm Warning In Effect

An approaching winter storm could bring as much as 40 centimetres of snow to parts of southern New Brunswick on Monday.

Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for Moncton, Sussex, the Kennebecasis Valley, Saint John and Grand Manan. It replaces a snowfall warning issued earlier on Sunday.

Snow, at times heavy, is forecast to begin overnight Sunday and become mixed with ice pellets late Monday afternoon.

The national weather agency says between 30 and 40 centimetres is possible along the Fundy coast by Monday evening.

Wind gusting to 50 kilometres per hour will also cause blowing snow over exposed areas.

“Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions,” the weather agency said. “Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.”

The Fredericton area, which is under a snowfall warning, is expecting about 15 centimetres; northern New Brunswick will see between five and 15 centimetres.

Environment Canada is forecasting sunshine for the rest of the week, but daytime highs will be six to nine degrees below normal.
