A developer wants to transform a former Moncton fire station into an 8-unit apartment building in the Sunny Brae neighbourhood.
City council has approved the first reading of the rezoning application for 132 McLaughlin Drive.
Ward One Councillor Paulette Theriault applauds the developer for preserving a portion of the existing building.

Developer Paul Arsenault with TerraTrust notes how two other larger apartment buildings with 40 units each are planned in the same area.
If permits are granted, he expects construction will start in the spring.
City council was unanimous in its support for the project although Ward One Councillor Shawn Crossman had concerns about drainage issues.
But city planner Bill Budd assured council the entire lot will have a drainage plan.
A public hearing on the matter will be held on March 18th.
