QMJHL President Visits Saint John As League Turns 50

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League rivalry between Saint John and Moncton was on display Friday night as the two teams tangled in the special anniversary contest at Harbour Station.

League president Gilles Courteau was in Saint John to meet with community leaders and fans as the Q celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Courteau says one of the biggest improvements in the league is the school bursary program for the players.

“Each and every player is getting a maximum of $6,000 a year for four years, $24,000. It’s something we are very proud of and one of the biggest improvements in our league,” Courteau says.

The Moncton Wildcats pummelled the Saint John Sea Dogs 8-1.
