A one on one meeting in Ottawa with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau did not prove very fruitful, according to Premier Blaine Higgs.
In a conference call with reporters on Tuesday night, Blaine Higgs says they discussed softwood lumber, our ageing population and the carbon tax.
Higgs says he asked the Prime Minister how much money is being taken in through the carbon tax versus how much is going out.
“And I did not get a clear answer on that because there is more money coming in than being spent out. It’s clear that over the four years when the carbon tax is fully implemented, the amount of money the average family is going to be spending here is in the order of $1200 per year.” Higgs says.
Higgs says there are a lot of hidden costs that won’t be well understood and it’s not good for the average New Brunswicker and he doesn’t find it acceptable as Premier.
He doesn’t think Beausejour MP Dominic Leblanc should accept it either as the minister representing New Brunswick.
