Accident Involving School Bus Prompts Safety Reminder

Another reminder to motorists about safety around school buses.

A vehicle and a school bus collided in Moncton this morning.

It’s believed the bus involved was from Francophone South.

Anglophone East School District Transportation Manager David McCormick says , “Cars must remember to keep their distance. As soon as those red lights come on, you need to be five metres away from the bus at all times. It gives good visibility for the driver of your location. We have had drivers run into our buses also.”

McCormick says school buses make frequent stops and if you need to be aware of that if you are travelling behind one. Because it is winter, the roads may also be a bit slippery.

We have reached out to Francophone South, but have not had a response yet.

“You want to ensure that everyone within the vicinity of a school bus is safe. Children crossing the road. Parents on the side of the road, sidewalks and crosswalks, all of those things come to mind to keep everyone safe,” McCormick says.

There’s no word if anyone was hurt in today’s accident.
