Swimmers Compete In NB Open Cup In Moncton

Hundreds of the top swimmers in Atlantic Canada and beyond are competing this weekend in Moncton.

It is the 35th year for the New Brunswick Open Cup.

Head Coach for the Codiac Vikings Melanie Melanson says you’ll see swimmers from across Atlantic Canada, Quebec, and even France, “Some of our top athletes thatr are even trying to make Canadian JUnior teams are going to be racing this weekend.”

Melanson says it is the fastest short course meet that is hosted in this region right now, “The best of the best come and race at it. Kids get really amped up for it. It’s just a really great energy in an environment on deck. I love being on deck for this meet just because of the energy. I loved it as a swimmer, and now that I am a coach, I remember what it felt like to be there as an athletes. I want my athletes to have as good of an experience.”

The NB Open Cup got underway earlier today and runs until Sunday at the CEPS complex, located on the Universite de Moncton campus.
