Evacuations Ordered In Sussex Due To Flooding

Significant flash flooding in riverfront areas of Sussex late last night forced the evacuation of dozens of homes.

At least 17 people were set up with emergency lodging at area hotels and motels and the Canadian Red Cross expects there will be more to come.

Red Cross volunteers from Moncton and Saint John will be headed to Sussex this morning to help evacuees with additional needs.

The town’s Emergency Operations Control Group issued an advisory late yesterday that water levels had exceeded flood levels and urged residents in affected areas to evacuate.

An emergency shelter opened late last night at the Saunders Irving Chapel of the privately run Kingswood University on Wesley Drive.
