Province Launches Review Of Covered Bridges, River Ferries

The provincial government announced a review of New Brunswick’s covered bridges and river ferries, with an eye towards sustainable long term management.

Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Bill Oliver says New Brunswick based Timber Restoration Services will studying five covered bridges in the southern reaches of the province, to determine if restoration with wood is possible – and at what cost.

In the 1950s, there were approximately 340 covered bridges owned by the province, but that number has fallen to 54 since then.

Oliver says they will be consulting with various government departments, as well as the people who live near, and use the bridges and ferries.
