The fill the bus campaign amongst Anglophone East schools was expected to wrap up today, but the stormy conditions are putting a bit of a damper on that.
Staff and other volunteers were expected to go to each school today to physically fill the buses with non perishable food items.
Director of Finance and Administration Aubrey Kirpatrick says it has become an annual tradition, “Schools do have a competition. We have a high school and award for most raised and a middle school and also an elementary. The excitement that is generated by “Fill the Bus” within the schools. Of course, it has now become a tradition. If you started in Kindergarten, and you’re now in grade 12, then you’ve lived 13 years of fill the bus.”
Last year over 28, 545 pounds of food was collected. That converted into dollars, is $71, 363.
The pick up date has been postponed until Wednesday, once the stormy conditions have ended.
All of the food goes to Food Depot Alimentaire.
