Vegan Group Behind Provocative Billboards

A billboard in downtown Moncton is turning a few heads as it features a dog and a pig with the caption “Why LOVE one but EAT the other?”

The Vegan Education Group NB (VEG NB) put up the billboard to get a conversation going about killing animals for food, clothing or entertainment.

Spokesperson Bill Wilson says the group wants people to think about something they normally don’t.

“We treat one set of animals… like dogs for instance… with a lot of love. But we treat other animals like pigs, cows and chickens a lot differently. We slaughter them for food and clothing for example.”

Wilson says most people agree harming animals is wrong and what we’re doing to them is unnecessary, so why are we doing it?

VEG NB claims that strong evidence is suggesting that a plant-based vegan diet is optimal during all stages of our lives.

The group’s goal is not to put animal farmers out of business but rather urge them to switch to plant-based farming.

Wilson adds VEG NB’s billboards, one in Moncton and the other in Saint John, were crowdfunded with help from another group called Save Movement Canada.
