The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is including a portion of New Brunswick for the first time in their regulated areas for the emerald ash borer.
The new area encompasses Madawaska County, excluding Grand Falls, and is a first for the province after the beetle was discovered earlier this year in the Edmundston area.
Effective immediately, the movement of ash material including logs, branches, woodchips, and all species of firewood from the area is restricted.
To move regulated articles, you need written authorization from your local CFIA office.
The CFIA says the emerald ash borer poses no threat to human health, but is devastating to ash trees, and is estimated to have killed millions of trees across Canada and the US since 2002.
