Hockey fans are getting excited for tonight’s homeopener.
It’s the first time the Moncton Wildcats will take the ice against an opponent at the Avenir Centre.
Director of Wildcats Business Operations Ryan Jenner says this state of the art facility offers some definite advantages for the players and the fans.
Humidity often had an impact on the early season games at the Moncton Coliseum.
“Our homeopener every year was the unofficial Fog Fest at the Coliseum. Everyone was in shorts and t-shirts and it was very, very warm. Certainly, the further we went into playoffs, as the weather changed, it would really warm in the building again. That is definitely not going to be an issue here . It is a fully controlled building, so it will be one temperature all the time. The people will be able to enjoy that, and so will the players. On those warm days for the fans, it was that much warmer for the players.”
Jenner says with more controlled temperatures at the new Centre, they won’t have to deal with melting ice and overheated players and fans.
Tonight’s game against the Saint John Sea Dogs is sold out. It gets underway at 7:30.
