Health Canada Investigating Salmonella Cases Across Country

An advisory from Canada’s Council of Chief Medical Officers of Health to ensure frozen raw breaded chicken products are handled and cooked properly.

This comes as a result of an investigation into salmonella infections across the country.

Since May of 2017, there have been 419 lab confirmed cases of salmonella in Canada, including 23 in New Brunswick, and 9 in Nova Scotia. 86 people have been hospitalized.

Over the past year and a half, Health and Food Safety partners have investigated 12 national outbreaks linked to raw chicken. Those include things like chicken nuggets, strips, burger, popcorn chicken and fries.

Cooking instructions need to be followed carefully.
