NBTA President Sounding The Warning Bell About A Teacher Shortage In The Near Future

The New Brunswick Teachers Association is looking at 1,000 teachers taking retirement in New Brunswick in the next five years.

President George Daley says the problem is a lot of young people are not interested in pursuing a career in education, especially those whose parents are teachers.

” We have got a lot of teachers whose kids see what their parents go through every day and what comes with the demands of the job and the work conditions of the job and they choose not to go into education.”

Daley says they are working with universities and will work with the next provincial government to work on pushing for more young people being interested in teaching as a profession.

Daley says there is an overall shortage of teachers across the country.
