Brake Line Cut On Election Candidate’s Truck

A candidate running in Fundy-The Isles-Saint John West says he has contacted the RCMP about an incident involving his vehicle’s brake line.

In a statement to our newsroom, Rick Doucet said he was leaving his driveway in St. George early Tuesday and realized his truck’s brakes were not working properly, “which is a problem since I live on a fairly steep hill.”

Doucet said he took the vehicle to a local garage and was told to call police because the brake line had been cut.

“It’s upsetting to me and my family, of course. You would be upset too,” Doucet said. “My family uses the truck on a regular basis, and fortunately no one was hurt.”

The longtime Liberal MLA and cabinet minister said he hopes the incident has nothing to do with the election.

“But I’m more determined than ever to continue with the campaign and win re-election,” he said. “I’m not going to be intimidated by anyone.”

RCMP Cpl. Jullie Rogers-Marsh confirmed to our newsroom they are investigating a report of someone’s brake line being cut in the St. George area, but could not say who the complainant was.
